It seems like a bit of a pain to have to message andwhyisthat just to get a name change. An option to name yourself would be quite nice and convenient. Nothing against andwhyisthat, just a suggestion.

 

There's a reason why that option isn't available. It's to prevent any potential abuse that could happen, like someone changing their username every day.

There could be a 1 month cool down possibly
but wouldn't it be cool if i could change my name every day to a random meme and people could just refer to me as "the guy who likes memes"?

 

won't happen, this got turned on for about 24h by accident once and the abuse took months to repair

 

This would not only be abusive, but also very confusing since you wouldn't be able to tell who is actually who if people change their name frequently.

Also, you didn't need to make a new thread for this, you could of just edited your other one.

 

Didn't we have this feature before the forum moved to XenForo last year?
Or did that require admin approval?

 

It was the same before the Xenforo transfer, IIRC.

 

xenForo works differently because in xF your username and display name are one and the same, whereas in IPB they are separate. This is why many changed names were inadvertently reset after the IPB to xF move.
