MrChar.pbm Crashed my game

(The problem occured with the Pre-Patched English from the main page and the Curly mod from http://www.cavestory.org/forums/threads/1174/ which works fine when I take away my edited mychar.pbm) I assume I screwed something up when saving. I saved as a 24-Bitmap pbm file. Which is what the game uses. I assume I should have saved as bmp and rename to pbm.

I'd reccommend downloading Paint.NET for editing. It's way better than Paint.
Just save it as a Bitmap in PDN, then rename the extension to pbm.

Make sure to use "Auto-detect" when selecting Bit depth!

 

I tried opening the .pbm uneditied in Paint.Net and it said it was an invalid file.

 

You have to change the file type to .bmp (bitmap), edit it, then change the file type BACK to .pbm and then put it back in the folder.

 

or just use booster's lab like it's not still 2010

 

You may have forgotten about the "(C)Pixel" requirement. You need to open the .pbm in a hex editor and add "(C)Pixel" to the end of the file.

 

I fixed it with Cave Editor. AND THEN! I went and deleted all of the code in the EXE file using ResHacker.exe (Resource Hacker. It allows the changing of executable files.) So now I have to re-extract the exe from the zip!

just "Resource Hacker".

Also, why the FUCK would anyone think that was a good idea?

 

I was trying to change the icon that shows for the exe. So the best idea I had: Use the file that came with a program that got canceled years ago!

Aar's being an ass to a new user as we've been trying to tone down. In any case, deleting all the resources in the executable probably isn't the best option but I'm not sure if that's what you're actually doing, cause this whole conversation seems a little odd. All you have to do is replace the resources in the icon folder.
