I recently saw a thread about how the island looks like the Kingdom of Zeal in Chrono Trigger, and while I disagree with that, that got me thinking of an actual similarity between Chrono Trigger and Cave Story.
They both have blue hair and pale skin, and Misery's look definitely has the same overall feel. Both are recurring villains who turn out to be less evil than you thought. Both are arrogant and want power, though for different reasons (and technically by the time we meet her, Misery doesn't really want power, she just wants to be rid of the crown). I dunno. There isn't a whole lot of evidence, but they just kinda feel similar.
This is not a theory so much just as making some observations, so while I welcome people telling me I'm reading way too much into this, please make fun of my ideas (in a constructive way), not me.
