In Cave Story you learn the fate of all of the main characters... except Kanpachi.

This mod is about what happens to Kanpachi after the best ending in Cave Story. Feed back is greatly appreciated.

Downloads:


-Change log-

-Beta 1.01 starts game in 640x480 rather than -gulp- full screen.
-Beta 2 added new sprites and a bunch of bug fixes.
-Beta 2.01 got rid of junk files.
-Beta 2.1 corrected a bug with flags.
-Beta 2.4 fixed some errors in the story line.
-Beta 2.4.1 fixed a platform bug.
-Beta 2.5 Fixed a missing flag.
-Beta 2.5.1 Got rid of junk files (again -__-)
-Beta 3 hax is orange man
-Beta 3.02 Fixed a formatting mistake

I'm really liking the mod so far! I did find a bug where if you load the save file in the Labyrinth and head over to the door that ends the demo, it will activate the dialogue used in the fall scene. It's not that big of a problem, though. You can just put in a flag to prevent it from happening again.

IMO it'd make more sense to have Kanpachi take his rod and bucket with him in the first place, both to save on backtracking and from a character standpoint.

Nice mod. The only bug I found is that when you drown, you turn into quote.

I like it so far. I also like how fast Kanpachi moves, the game feels less floaty.
There is a bug where if you enter the Rest area after getting the fishing rod, all of the events reset.

Please finish this.

Here are the only complaints I have:

Why are the numbers and such shaded like this? It makes them hard to read.
You should try something similar to what I did in one of my mods:

The sprite does not bob up and down, the sprite is not centered properly, the colors are messed up, etc.
If you want to edit anything in CS, I advise you use paint.net.
I'd advise you do something like this:

Also, the grammar is pretty bad. I'd advise checking it over before releasing any more demos.

Other than that, good job! I wish you luck in the future!

A few things.

If you fall into the water, the script for the transport pipe is missing so you die.

Also, there are some minor grammatical errors involving punctuation.

The "Look Up" sprites for Kanpachi could use some work. Maybe make his visible hand point up too? As is it looks a little weird. Other than that I like the sprites.

Is the music supposed to change upon exiting the lounge? Also, the door does not animate when entering the lounge. Actually, none of them animate anymore.

I did not particularly enjoy all the running back and forth, ESPECIALLY not for the fishing pole. You should let the player take it right off that bat if they choose to and only force them back if they don't. (LOL as a side note, I thought it would be a blade, but instead you CAST the pole at your enemies xD Hilarious.)

I would make the bucket an item in the inventory since you picked it up.

Kanpachi and his dialogue with other characters seems awkward. Also, since Kanpachi is the main character, perhaps you should make a face picture for him? So that it's easier to distinguish when certain characters are speaking.

WHOA plot twist. I was totally expecting to wind up in Grasstown. Also, why is the music in the Labyrinth on <FMU? It sounds really bad, because <FMU removes any fades or volume changes added to an ORG, which would make any ORG sound pretty bad.
All together, MUCH better than most of the latest mods. It seems you took the time to actually learn and experiment with TSC before you played the game, and it's also clear that, to an extent, you did actually test your mod. That's more than I can say for some people.

Well done! I can see this going places.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Ill try to implement all of the feedback into the new version of the mod. Im all fairly new to modding so the early scripts may be a little messy. Also thanks Aar for the MyChar Im not the best at sprite work and I used -gulp- MSPaint for moving images (Which would change the color palette D:). Also does anyone know how to prevent events that were <DNPd from coming back when loading a save?

Set the NPC to disappear when a certain flag is set and use <FL+XXXX to set said flag

Oh, there's something I forgot to say;
Why can you go to the labyrinth shop? And even more weird; Why are the Gaudi there friendly to Kanpachi?
Put a wall there or something, as going further there makes up for a glitchy Labyrinth, as Curly is there for a weird reason and the Monster X battle leaves you trapped due to Monster X not spawning, although the battle does start.

Alright, I just downloaded Beta 2, and I have to congratulate you on actually listening to people and correcting mistakes based around their criticism.
It seems as though not many around here do that anymore...

Edit: The only thing I see that you didn't fix was the grammar.
