• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Is there any way...

To change my save file to be just a BIT earlier in the game? I forgot to grab the Tow Rope in the core room, and now I'm locked out. My save point is in the Dark Place. Is there anything I can do?

Note that you're fucked, finish the game, and play it again.
Or...
Use the saves

So are there no save editors?

:(

Oh well, to get everything don't you need to play at least 3 times?

There are several save editors

And there are three endings, but theoretically you could get them all in one "run" if you knew what you were doing.

Hmm... The first one didn't work, which others allow you to edit the save file (i.e. not a trainer)?

I just tried CaveShark, but when I run it nothing happens.

Is it because I'm using CS+?

Please don't double post.
No there are not. You're more than welcome to play the original though. It's free after all.

Not at the moment, but you can pick up a save from the tribute site or compose one yourself, then convert it with andwhyisit's save compiler.

OK, I downloaded on most similar to where I am. I renamed it to Profile. When I try to run CaveShark, it says that it must be in the Cave Story folder...

Just get the freeware version, apply the translation patch, move all of the contents of the CaveShark folder into the Cave Story folder, then run the CaveShark executable. I know, it's not the most user-friendly thing in the world, but... It works!

Also, Save Editor does kind of work (I'm running Windows 7 on this and I can't really see the clicks I make without moving the window constantly), but it needs alleg42,ddl in the same folder in order to run, which can also be found in the tribute site.

Dang... CaveShark only works with weapons, and Save Editor screws up on my Windows 7 PC...

Yep, it's a murky process.
Have fun getting up to the Core again, by the way :p

Your best bet is to grab a pre-core save from the tribute site and edit in your weapons, items, and hp to match your post-core save. Caveshark is at least able to do this much if I recall. If not then try running saveedit under compatibility settings. If neither work then whip out a hex editor and put it in manually. There are a number of guides on save hacking on the tribute site.

Now maybe I'm cynical, but wouldn't it be easier to JUST START CAVE STORY AGAIN? The game isn't that hard if you know the boss exploits, and second runthroughs are less confusing because you know where everything is.

Now I appreciate that wanting save editing help is a reasonable request: I'm just thinking that it would be much easier for everyone involved to just replay the game.

It doesn't. When I go outside of the hideout, Curly is gone if the rocket is done.
