Hey guys, like the title says, I made a mod for freeware Cave Story where the entire script (the Aeon Genesis English patch) is Google Translated. I’ve been working on this on and off since March of this year, so I’m happy that I’ve finally been able to finish it! For those interested, here’s the download link:

How I did this (if you happen to care):
I know that a lot of you don’t like CSBDs that much, so if you don’t really want to play through the entirety of vanilla Cave Story just to see the Wacky Translations™ but are interested in the results I got, you could look through this very long PDF file that I used when working on the project. All of the lines are lined up, so anyone should be able to tell what got translated into what. Everything is also sectioned out in tables, where each table represents all the text in a Booster’s Lab script (or all the area titles or graphical text).

Here’s also a video of the first few minutes of the game if you just wanted to briefly check it out. The audio is kinda trash because I used the Windows 10 screen recorder, so I'm sorry about that.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. I hope that some of you will have fun with this! I was pretty entertained by playing through it. The plot is probably really interesting once you get past all the weird writing, although it’s still kind of nonsensical. This is (obviously) my first post on this site and Cave Story mod, so if a link or download isn’t working or some of the text in the game displays incorrectly (lines skip weirdly or text goes off the end of the text box), please let me know so I can fix it! Happy 15th anniversary!

Some more info:
- I sent the script through ten different languages before putting it back into English.
- I did the above method three more times (with different languages + order) for a total of four different scripts.
- I mixed and matched the results and came up with a finalized script that I used to replace all the text to make up the mod.
How I did this (if you happen to care):
- I typed out the entirety of Aeon Genesis’ translation from Booster’s Lab’s script files. I started out copying and pasting everything, but that ended up being too time consuming for me since I formatted the script a specific way when I copied it into the file I used. I don’t know if there was already a resource I could have used instead of spending hours doing this, but from what little looking around I did I couldn’t find anything.
- I came up with four sets of ten languages that I would send the script through (three of which originated from an earlier time when I was just experimenting with this concept for fun).
- I copied and pasted sections of the original script (however much that would fit into Google Translate’s limits without the risk of it going over those limits once translated) into Google Translate and sent the sample through one set of ten predetermined languages. Then, I copied the results into the file I was using. I repeated this process until I had the entire script done with the same ten languages, and then I did everything again with the other sets of languages. Again, I know that there’s probably a way to do everything here a lot easier, but I neglected to search for something because I thought that the experience would be fun (it was not, but the results were worth it to me).
- I went through my file and highlighted one translated line out of four for each original line in the game. The ones I highlighted were mostly the ones I personally found to be the best, but after playtesting or trying to enter it into the scripts, I found that I had to choose a shorter example instead.
- I replaced the original text with the highlighted text in the Booster’s Lab’s scripts.
- For the text that was present in the graphical files, I used a different program to edit them so that they represented the translations.
- Obviously, I playtested the game a couple times to make sure that the text displayed correctly (some of the signs are off-center but I didn’t feel like spending a long time on them).
