Is it possible for me to edit Whimsical Star to look like small orbiting moons? I tried before, and the game would crash as soon as the stars materialized after charging Spur to Level 3. I am sorry if this has been answered before, and Search is very helpful, but I could not find much relating to this for some reason.

You probably forgot to add the "(C)Pixel" sting at the end of the file.

I do not think I saw that anywhere. I used Paint by the way, was I supposed to use something specific?

Em well, Lemme tell you the steps to follow to edit your sprite.

First, use a Hex Editor and find the string (C)Pixel in the Doukutsu.exe
Delete the thread.

Then, you open the to-be-edited .pbm file, and copy the whole picture and paste into a new file, so you won't have a limited number of colours to play with.

Then, after you're done editing and drawing, you can then place the newly edited file into the date folder, wherever neccessary, and play.

Have fun :o

Btw I made a thread on how to find frame rects, if you don't already know how. Here it is:

I also have another thread that teaches you how to use Hex Editor, if you need it just type XVI32 into the search box and you'll find a "Hex Editor Guide for starters" or something like that o.o

Erm...
I never do this step and never have a prob.
Also, Hex Editor (as far as I can tell) seems to be a bit more user-friendly...

Gonna bump an old topic 'cause apparently it's better to do that than post a new topic...? :/

I added a (C)Pixel string with a hex editor at the end... and it still didn't work. Crashed the game. Wish I could understand the error message.

Also why is my new filesize more than four times as large as the original? Old .pbm was 17 kB... new one is 70 kB, even though I only added... praps four colors to the palette? BMP doesn't save like a GIF anyway so that shouldn't matter, should it?

EDIT: While the filesize difference is still a mystery to me, as it turns out my (C)Pixel signature was in the wrong place, so...
