Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

There are a lot of mods to try out, and it's not like they cost money or whatever.
Just pick some random appealing mods you like and download them.
I expect you likely know that you can search in the showcase sub-forum.

Rave Story and A Walk in the Snow are both good, and are both complete.
I would also recommend King: Strife and Sacrifice (a.k.a. Kings Story).

Cave Story: Redesign was one of my personal favorites. WTF Story too, some really kickass music and one of the few mods that utilized the 2x res hack.
Even though they are not finished, to me they seem rather polished and worth playing.
