Okay I've looked for this for about an hour but all the links to stuff are dead.
So I need help.
How do you edit dialouge?

Erm, are you asking how to change what the characters in Cave Story are saying...?
Because that's almost too newb-ish to answer...
But I'll try anyways...

Assuming you already have an editor, like Cave Editor or Sue's Workshop, go to the script of a room...
After a command like <MSG, <MS3, or <MS2 {<FACXXXX is optional}, anything regularly typed in will appear as the dialogue in the game.
Unfortunately, there's a limit to how many words will pop up on one line, and you have to manually hit enter to skip to the next line, or the dialogue will just keep on typing until it's off-screen and unreadable..
Other commands that have to do with text would be like <CLR, which clears the box completely, <CLO, which closes the entire message box, and <NOD, which pauses until the player hits a button....
<FACXXXX makes a portrait appear {According to the number, which replaces X}, but you should find a TSC.txt in order to figure out what number is what portrait...

But, seriously, I learn this without even looking at the Forums...
And, I don't think you've searched hard enough...

You should learn from the script already in the game...
And there's a TSC command list in Cave Editor {Not sure about Sue's Workshop, *Snicker*}

Yes, that was what I was talking about.
But all the levels in Sue's Workshop won't load tilesets. Would this have an effect on the scripts for that level too?

Hmm, won't load tilesets?
Not sure what's wrong there {I use Cave Editor}, but did you modify the graphics files in anyway?
If you did, you gotta make sure to get the (C)Pixel part back on there, either with a Hex Editor, or something else {Cave Editor does it automatically ^.^}
You also have to remember to save them back as .PBMs {Just save them as .BMPs, but rename the ending .PBMs}

Messed up tilesets shouldn't affect the scripts, but I'm not sure.
Never had that problem, and I've only used Cave Editor XD

Oh yeah, andwhy or SP, shouldn't this be moved to the Hacking/Modding question/answers thread? :D

Um, I tried to get CE but...
Yeah link's dead.

And no, I didn't touch the tilesets. I just touched the sprites for certian characters (but I added the (C)Pixel back to the end).

There's thread for Q/A?
Oops.

Holy crap, CE's down?
Better tell andwhy or SP {Doubt SP would care XD}

Anyways, not sure why they're not showing up, if you added the (C) part correctly and saved them as .PBMs..

And yeah, this is the thread
andwhy or SP will probably merge this with that, though...

Anyways, better go see what's wrong with the CE link...

Ok, there was a Q/A thread, and tilesets have absolutely no effect whatsoever on dialogue
What do you mean "Was a Q/A thread"?!
I'm still answering questions that pop up there! {And asking my own}

Eh

I meant it's irrelevant to the situation right now.
It will be, when one of the Admins merges this with the other Thread...
Also, we should point out the Thread, so it can be used for what it was designed for, and lessen down on newb-ish threads {No offensive, Dragon XD}

You already pointed it out.
I know. I was just stating why it is involved with the current situation.
Now, are you going to help with the original topic, or just nit-picky more?

The question was answered. We're done here.
What about the graphics problem? {As in, why they're screwing up, not if they affect scripts or not}
It was only answered with an "IDK"..

Well, we don't exactly know the situation.
I would need more information. Send us a file, dude. We'll figure out what's corrupted.

Um. There is no file to send, its just Sue's Editor V.3C1 or something.

He meant your sprites that you've changed...
But I don't think that's required.
Once we get CE back up, you could double check the (C)Pixel thing with that, and see if the Tilesets work with CE...

Please get CE back up.
From what I've heard it's easier than Sue's Workshop

Huh.
But, I would also like to edit levels, and currently Sue's Workshop isn't doing that for me.

What are you talking about!? Editing levels is pretty much the most basic fundamental thing you can do with SW.

I think he means it won't display maps, which is why I'm using SW V. 0.3A combined with the npc list at the moment.

Whaddya mean buggy? The only real problem is the Backgrounds, and that can be fixed. {The other problems can be avoided even easier}
At least CE can play with other 3rd Party programs.
SW throws a hissy fit when forced to work with others :D

And I don't think SW has more features than CE.

are you kidding me? I said that CAVE EDITOR had more features than SUE'S, not vive versa.
and ce never works for me, but I admit it is better with third party programs.

*Facepalm*

What problems are you having with CE?
I've never had any difficulties, except for the background thing, but I can fix that now...

Well, I remember dooey was having a LOT of issues with CE for awhile back, to the point where using it was impossible. Then I showed him the download link to v 0.95, because apparently he had an older version. This fixed most of his problems. Be sure that the version you are using is v 0.95.
