Dancing

Do you like to dance? What are your favourite dances? Any special moves?

I started to learn to dance via private classes and I ENJOY IT very very much. In most Central European schools there is no dance in schools so you can never hear the famous "Would you go to the dance with me?" phrase at all. When my parents were young there was organized dance though. Here young people go to discos (until they are in their late twenties approx.) and (some) more mature people go to balls.

I can dance so far the: English and Vienesse waltz, Boogie (with special moves), Tango, Slow Fox, Samba, Rumba and still learning. I'm happy to have a great teacher. He was/is involved in the world championship preparations

 

I would like to learn how to dance, but I simply can't dance, and I don't know why. And I don't like the modern dance moves. Meh when I want something it's impossible to get

 

The only thing I know how to do is thrust my fists into the air, bring them back down, wash, rinse, and repeat.

 

I have been known to put my ass in the air like I just don't care, you could say it's my signature move. I have also taught people how to Dougie, but that's water under the bridge.

 

Okay, you stummed my nerd string. One of them. I love dancing. I especially love Cuban social dances. I'm most familiar with casino, which sometimes people call "Cuban salsa" (especially in Europe), even though it is really more like a cousin or a sister dance compared with salsa. Really, though, I like it enough that I wrote my Master's thesis on the stuff. Nerd? Yes.

Anyway, I also know a little bit of Cuban danzón, son, and rumba (specifically guaguancó and columbia), though I still have lots to learn. I'm a member of a casino dance company, actually, and we teach people casino all the time. I love teaching people casino. It's a ton of fun and I want to teach everyone here on the forums to dance. It would be a blast and a half.

I know a bit of salsa dancing, too, but I haven't really done it much since I started learning casino and now it never feels right when I try to dance salsa—my casino instincts take over too much now. Whatever.

I know a tiny tiny tiny bit of ballroom rhumba (which is really a lot like Cuban son), waltz, fox trot, and ballroom tango. I really want to learn swing and Argentine tango.

Oh and when I was a kid I did a little bit of liquid pop and locking, too. And walking, too (a little Crip walk and Clown walk), but that's been ages.

But the whole casino thing: it looks like this when you get really really really good (way better than I am)

I can see it now; the forum members gathering, the music starting, and a group salsa of epic proportions ensuing.XD

 

I can imagine each person doing a different dance, and about 70% of the dances being atrocious (mine included).
And of course the other 30% not dancing at all.

Tough question. Since I know some cool looking stuff in Boogie, I'd say that is my favourite. Simply because I can do the most with that dance at the moment, which means more freedom. Maybe my opinion will change as I learn more.
