One of the focuses {There will be several more, don't worry} in the mod I'm working on is Curly's AI, back in the labyrinth {'course, most of Curly's sprites will be replaced so for a new character...}. The {Few} mod's I've seen haven't used it at all, and I got an idea for a good story line that would make good use of it {But tell me if there's a mod that already used that idea..}.
There's just two things I'm afraid of, has this idea not been use because it can't be done? As in, does the AI only work on that single level's layout, or something to that effect? I haven't tried anything yet and thought I should check before screwing something up, majorly...
Then there's the AI's weapon; since it could have been either the Polar Star or Machine gun, I take it that it can be changed, but to only just those two weapons? If that's the case, I could just swap/change the weapons into something more suitable... but is it always set to level 3? It'd kinda ruin the gameplay if your partner killed everything in one hit in the beginning.....

I'm making a mod with a small section where you have curly's AI to fight a boss but she doesn't target the boss cause the boss isn't a labyrinth enemy but the minor enemies around it are. And if you're worried about making it feel like you've copied someone elses idea then don't worry. I only really see it as copying if you do something like use other's sprites without permission, copy hacks and such but If it's something already In the original game then It's fine. Personally I don't think it's such a great Idea if you make it so that you have her with you through the entire game cause she doesn't take damage but you might be able to do that cause this brings me to something else that I'm not so sure how to do and I'm confident that It can be done without the use of assembly and if it is then I'll try my best. I had an idea for my new mod which should work well. Basically a boss that you fight without the use of weapons. I wanna make it so that there are parts of the wall that shots are fired out of when you go near them and I know exactly how to do this. So I want the shots to damage the boss when they hit it. I know that this is possible cause in the original game, the second time you go through the egg corridor there's just one little bit where you can make a giant spike land on a sky dragon which then instantly kills said sky dragon. I looked at the npc.tbl and checked sprite 200(sky dragon) and 205(Large Falling spike) but I didn't find anything like flags that might make either of them take damage on contact with another npc. I think if we work that out, then you can make it so that AI curly can die but there may be a couple of problems there. The AI curly npc is programmed just to fight labyrinth enemies and the core and follow you, she isn't programmed to avoid spikes or enemies and if you were to change the assembly for AI curly so that she shoots everything then that would be a problem cause she would shoot things like horizontal/vertical triggers, doors, invisible npcs that change into something later. I'm sorry for making this post so long but I really think it might help a little.

Thanks for the help, I probably would have spent a long time trying to figure out why the AI didn't fire at anything, since I'm not using any Labyrinth-based sprites yet....
The AI will follow you most of the game {Not always in the AI mode, but for the story stuff}, but it won't always help you fight.
The labyrinth-only part's gonna hurt some things, but I'll figure something out....thanks for the help!
And any idea on how the weapons work for the AI? If the fights are going to be rare, I might as well make them a bit hard, and a level 3 Machine Gun's kinda strong for an unkillable person...

It could refer to the weapon in the assembly but I'm not completely sure. Another alternative is to make it so that you have the machine gun cause as far as I know, she'll use the opposite weapon to you. Make sure when you have a fight with the curly AI, you animate it with method 20. If it's not animated she just stands in one place and does nothing.

Oh yeah I should take another look at your mod cause it was quite short but pretty interesting. There's one thing I did try to make curly shoot at the boss I have by putting guadi eggs in the ceiling but for somereason that didn't work either.

Wait! I got an idea! The guadi egg thing probably didn't work cause it was inside the wall and curly doesn't shoot enemies on the other side of a wall. Maybe if i were to make the guadi eggs unshootable by changing the npc.tbl and put one on the ceiling but not in the wall, and in the event of defeating the boss, delete the egg in the ceiling.

If that works, you should make the sprite {Eggs} invisable, and it'd be perfect!

I may be wrong, but I think curlies bullets are an entirely different entity than the ones you shoot, which means they may not harm non-labyrinthians.

Of course, I'm sorta sleep deprived, so I'm probably entirely wrong (if you wanna read something intelligent by me, go back a few months)

Idea

I've got an idea that should let the AI shoot at every enemy, without doing any assembly or hex editing; but first, I've got to know if this can work.....
Can entities besides the player trigger Horz/Vertic events?

As far as I know, you can't do that
