Cave Story: Glass Cannon

Hello everyone I have decided to make a half-mod, as I like to call it, called Cave Story: Glass Cannon Mode.

The main premise with this is that you have extremely powerful weapons right of the bat, but only 1hp through the whole game.

In this half-mod you will start with:
  • Spur
  • Machine Gun lvl3
  • Snake lvl3
  • Blade lvl3
  • Nemesis lvl1
  • Booster 2.0
  • Arms Barrier
  • Turbocharge
  • Air Tank
  • Whimsical Star

I also took out a couple things:
  • Heart Capsule's
  • Rocket Launcher and all ammo

I also changed the looks of a few areas, however they are more toward the end. See if you can reach them :D

Alright here we go:
-I shouldn't have to do load game to get to where you want me to be.
-Why does King's theme start...? If I re-enter the room, Gestation plays anyway.

That's about it really. You say that you changed some of the later levels, but I honestly don't feel like going through the entire game to see it. Maybe you should make changes to the beginning and middle since all of us have already played Cave Story 1000 times, if you still feel like working on it. Besides that, good job, I didn't find any glitches!

Thanks for the criticism it helps. Honestly this is my first time doing a mod so I just wanted to try something simple.

I do plan on expanding more on this but it will take some time as I don't have access to youtube 24/7 and I am learning things on my own.

Can I also know a good software for a noob modder to try out I already have Miza, but are there better and easily learned ones out there. Thanks

Whoa whoa whoa, you're using Miza?? Please go and use either Booster's Lab or Cave Editor, both located here. That editor is very very very very very outdated, there is absolutely no benefit to using that one over the others.
And yeah don't worry, starting off simple is the best way to start off. I'm glad to see you're not being overly ambitious and trying to make some crazy mod; this is a fine start. Just make some changes here and there to keep it interesting.

I need help, I'm using CaveEditor but cant figure out how to make the game start you off at 1hp or with the weapons I want. Please help I don't know what to do...

Just <AM+ whatever weapons you want the player to start with.

Thank you Doors, I want to release a demo soon, I have only changed the amount of enemies but I plan to change layouts too.

But I'm going to release a demo for just the increased enemies. It only goes up to Igor though...


What was that thing with the weapons? How do I do it?

<AM+ is a TSC event. I'm not sure how Miza works but TSC is the scripting language for Cave Story.
In the code for the start event for your mod (which by default should be #0200) you would put <AM+XXXX, where XXXX is the value of the weapon you want to give the player. 0001 would be the Snake. I think. You'd just put <AM+XXXX a bunch of times for multiple weapon assigns.

The format would look as following in the code:

The <END at the end is what stops the event.

Im not using Miza not that I have learned of Cave Editor, which I am now using.

But I have run into a problem, whenever I go to start a new game, it comes with a text box for the robot in the egg corridor that talks about the basil, and I end up with a black screen with only sounds and the hud.

What the fook did I do... :(

Check your starting map and starting event (both found in game settings), then check the event in the script for that map.

I fixed the problem but I can't figure out how to put it into the script that you start with the weapons T_T

Er.
If you mean what I think you mean
Go into the starting map
Go into File at the top left, and click on edit script
Then go to the text that says #0200 and input the code under it. I would try not to overwrite anything that's already in there just to be safe, at least until you learn more about scripting.

I tried that but it doesn't put them in, they are just empty inventory and when you select them it just brings up the map...

Figured it out. Turns out I was an idiot and forgot a number when putting in the items. Everything is working now and I will be releasing a demo shortly.

So, I didn't really change the way the places look but I added an ass ton of enemies to try and up the difficulty. All weapons start at lvl1 because I don't know how to up their level. The demo goes up till you beat Igor. I made the door impassable to signify the end of the demo.

Let me know what I can change, besides level lay-outs, I'm still a noob at this T_T.

If anyone can tell me how to change the weapons lvl's at the start and how to change what signposts say it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all, and I hope you enjoy. :toroko:

1. You can't without assembly hacks. I made a TSC command hack that did this a while back but I can't remember how I did it. I can look into it though.
2. You should really read a modding guide or two, as you don't seem to understand the fundamentals of scripting and entities.

Have you tried the demo, I would really like some feedback on that.
