Can't run Cave Story freeware on Windows 10

When I run Doukutsu.exe the whole screen goes grey for about half a second and then it closes. I've tried running in compatibility mode for Windows XP and no luck. Any help would be appreciated!

 

This happens to me sometimes, but after opening the game a second time it works just fine, so maybe try doing that?

 

Hi, sorry for the late response. Oddly enough the day that I posted this I tried running it many, many times with no luck, but after giving up for several weeks, I tried again today and now it seems to work totally fine? No matter how many times I open, it runs perfectly. Just fixed itself somehow.
