I'm trying to run cavestory from an originally windows vista dual boot with windows 98. When i try to open the EXE file i doesnt do anything exept show the busy (hour glass) cursor then returns to normal. My hardware i good enought for it (1gb ram, 2ghz processor, a video driver capable of cave story(it played ikachan pretty well) heck i can even play Minecraft on the system(although it is unplayably laggy). I also have KernelX and microsoft visual Cpp runtime library. Despite all this cavestory will not run on the system. And there aren't many topics about this so i posted one myself. I also understand that if I needed to play this badly i could boot into vista, but i would still like to run it on my windows 98 partition if possible.

Thank you for reading,

Maybe it does, seeing as Cave Story's development started around 1999(If I'm not mistaken).

I could always try to see if it works on a real 98/95 system if I get home before this thread dies, but that would take too much time.

I remember playing Cave Story on Windows 98 using VMWare before. I admit, it was a bit laggy because VMWare can take so much memory.

Installing win98 on hardware not meant for it way harder than a virtual machine, I cant even use my disk drive-and here i was thinking it would be easy as or easer than a VM

ill go with a fresh install
YAY IT WORKED all i needed was a fresh install sorry for te trouble.
(The one i was trying to run was the one i think i was skrewing around with in ollydbg to see it it would glitch out or something.)

it does, if you look on the deluxe package installer it actually says a minimum requirement of Windows 95. Plus, I've played it on a 98 before (My first time beating Hell.)

Is Vista that bad that you'd downgrade to 98?
