animated .gifs as userpic = not working?

for some reason I can't use an animated .gif as my userpic.

I know it's possible because capt. fab uses one.

I've mad a gif image and i can't seem to get it to animate in my icon. it's of my remade cave story character.

I am aware this is an old topic, but here goes.
So I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing wrong, but I cannot figure out how to use a gif as my icon. I don't quite understand what is meant by "It doesn't work if it has to resize it"; the only thing I can think it means is that I have to manually resize the file, but any attempt to do so provides no success.

 

if your gif is larger than the allowed icon size it has to resize it on the server side
so don't make it that big
then it will work

I've saved the gif multiple times, each under 4 kilobytes, and I've tried various resolutions around 200x200, and I used the site you linked to, however the icon still isn't animated...

 

ok but avatars are not 200x200, I hope you realize that
