A few questions about hacking/modding.

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum here, but I'm a long-term Doukutsu Monogatari fan. I've just recently made an attempt at hacking/modding, and I'm currently working on a fan game, but I had a few questions that I wanted to ask. If any of you could help me out, it would be much appreciated.

1. Does anyone know a way to replace the .ogg files in the game? I really want to just replace one of the songs, but I'm not sure how to do it.

2. If anyone could tell me how to get a balrog sprite, that would be great. I just want him as an NPC, but I can't seem to find his sprite anywhere. I found a text file with the ID's for a lot of the NPC's in the game and the section on Balrog listed the sprite ID's: 0009, 0010, 0011, 0012, 0019, 0033, 0036, 0068, and 0169, but I've tried them all and they all appear as part of Omega, even though they function like Balrog.. which is weird..

3. The last question I'll ask right now is about the weapon exp, if anyone can help with that. Does anyone know how to change the EXP needed to level up a weapon? I want to increase the EXP needed to level up one of the weapons, but I haven't found a way to do it. I also would like to know how to change the amount of weapon EXP that certain monsters drop, if that's possible.

Thanks a lot in advance, and I'm hoping to get to know some of you in the community.

Edit: By the way, I use Sue's Workshop.

USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!!

But your post is nice enough, and it appears you did SOME research, sooooo....

1. There are no .ogg files in cavestory (at least not that I'm aware). The songs are a custom file type, .org (short for organya). They are used with pixel's song composer, orgmaker (you can only use org maker 134 if you want it to be compatible with cavestory). Also, to replace an org, just use resource hacker (which can be found and dl-d with your friendly neighbourhood "google").

2. Those sprites ID's are correct, your just failing due to a not-so-uncommon problem. If you're using Sue's Workshop (SW for short), and I'm assuming you are as that's the editor nearly everyone uses (not me tho, cuz i'm cool like that), you just need to right click the map you are editing in the map list, and go to settings. There you can change the sprite sheets that are available for this room. You'll want to change the 2nd sprite sheet to "Bllg", which is balrog's sprite sheet. Then he'll behave normally. (Note that this means that you can only use npc's from the selected 2 sprite sheets, unless they are in Npcsym or Npcreg)

3. To change the experience dropped, you'll need an npc.tbl editor. This is one made by WedgeOfCheese, but I don't use it myself since CaveEditor has a built in npc.tbl editor (CaveEditor isn't for noobs tho, most ppl find it glitchy, but for some reason I can still mod with it). As for the weapon experience values, first you'll need a hex-editor like xvi32. The code on the Weapon hacking thread should help you, but you'll need to learn how to use a hexeditor (easy stuff).

Thanks a lot! Yeah, I tried searching around a bit but I couldn't find much on sprite ID's, so I decided to ask. I completely forgot Cave Story used .orgs as well, I somehow confused it with .ogg, thanks for clearing that up. As for the stuff on weapon exp, thanks for the suggestions, I'll be trying that out soon.
