He only said official permission. It sounds like Nicalis owns the rights and Pixel can't give them away without confirming it with Nicalis first, but that's utterly retarded so I hope there's a better explanation. Free stuff is still allowed as long as you give credit to Pixel for making the original.

I believe it's most likely what fab said, that Nicalis told Pixel that he can't go telling people they are allowed to do what they want with his game. I imagine that they took him aside, and said "If anybody asks something, even if you're not entirely sure what they mean, just say no."

No. Stop overreacting. Pixel is not being screwed by anyone. He's just a game developer, and not a businessman at all, so it's not like he's going to take control of Nicalis. Likewise, Nicalis isn't going to take over Cave Story. It's a mutually respectful arrangement that Pixel is totally fine with.

And if Tyrone didn't want us making mods or remixes, he would have said something.

 

guys keep in mind that we don't actually know what's going on behind the scenes. We can only assume things.

For instance, I assume that Pixel is being mind controlled by Nicalis to do their evil bidding. But that is only what I assume. The truth could be completely different.

 

That's what publishers do, they get copyright. That's how capitalism works.

Capitalism is focused upon the concept of the free market. Pure capitalism is a free-for-all, she who comes up with the best products wins. Copyright, therefore, restricts this concept and is not part of how capitalism 'works'. It is an artificial restriction to help those who are already on top.
