A discord server for pxtone users

Hey pxtone fans! I'm putting together a discord server for both new and experienced pxtone users to share music, get help, and discuss whatever. From what I understand, the pxtone scene is pretty small (in the west, at least) and scattered all over the place. A lot of users probably don't even...

I'll let you know if anything develops. I've been thinking about posting in some other places to gauge interest but I'm not sure where the best place to do that would be. I'll probably put something on chipmusic.org, and maybe make a post on the main music board here, but if you've got any...

This is really cool stuff. I love the atmosphere you create with all the delay (on the first two tunes especially), it feels very full. Cool drum sounds too, are those TetraPulse drums? I'm pretty familiar with the Pepofont drums and I don't think I recognize these. That detuning (I think?) at...

I checked out a bunch of your stuff but this one is especially cool. Nice chords. Some of the detuning is pretty extreme, though, like on the edge of uncomfortable; maybe that was your intention. Which instrument pack? This is pretty cool too, although everything seems pretty loud. Some more...

5 new short tunes, each written in about an hour. Forgive me for not checking out the last couple of months of posts here; I should really be more active on this thread since I work with pxtone so much. I'll try to find time to listen to some of these and comment later.

Don't think I've heard any of your Pxtone work before; this is really cool stuff.

Neat effects. I never get tired of Cave Story covers. Thanks a lot! Nice to hear from you. Very nice melody there.

I've just released another set that I've been working on for quite a while. Plenty more information about it on the page. As usual I'll upload .ptcops if anyone wants. https://jaxcheese.bandcamp.com/album/summer-in-solitude

Very nice - and nice original, too, I like the horns. Who are you in the video? In terms of criticism, the only thing I can really say is that the bass seems very quiet throughout, or at least up until around 1:20. Even if it's meant to be quiet, it's barely audible as of right now. Cool...

I guess "samples" was kind of vague - there's lots of instruments available in .ptvoice but also you can use any sounds in .wav or .ogg form as instruments in pxtone, and there are great sources for .wav instrument "samples" all over the internet. I can point you to a few resources that I use...

You have some neat ideas, but execution could use some work - which is to be expected from a first track. Your instruments all sound very similar, and they're mostly at similar volumes, which can create some uncomfortable dissonance even with chords that should sound normal. I don't know if you...

Well, it was nice talking to you, but I've got nothing more to say and it's probably not a great idea to carry on a conversation in a thread like this. See you around, though.

Funny - I was going to mention George and Jonathan when I was talking about Pxtone being basic but decided against it. I was literally *just* listening to G&J3. I've been on the Famitracker forums for a couple of weeks, everyone there has been pretty helpful. I also checked out the TIGSource...

Yeah, honestly, it doesn't seem like the best place for musical discussion, but I'm afraid if I went to some kind of general computer audio forum it would be all above my head. From what I can tell Pxtone is pretty basic compared to most similar programs, but it's doing the job for me for right...

I agree with you there. As much as I love Cave Story I've pretty much only ever been here for music stuff. Being so impressed with Cave Story's music, and getting the opportunity to use OrgMaker to make music just like that (I hoped) was what put me on the path to writing video game-styled music.

I generally feel the same way about Genesis vs. SNES sound. SNES is probably capable of doing more varied types of music, but Genesis music always felt thicker and fuller to me. Even though SNES had all the great orchestral stuff like Chrono Trigger, Shining Force did somewhat the same thing on...

Being a pretty huge Genesis fan I have a fair amount of respect for Tommy Tallarico's work, so that's high praise to me. That said, EJ2's music always felt a little...gimmicky to me, as did the game. Cool stuff, though, thanks. I was definitely going for a Genesis feel. Also, ironically enough...

Is there any function to double post as a bump when there's legitimate activity going on? Or does it still get moved up when a double post is made? I know there's at least a few threads I follow that are only occasionally updated by a few people, and I'd hate to miss an important update. I...

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely get where you're coming from with the crash cymbal sound, I think I may have been getting a bit annoyed by it myself, although I can't comment on Sonic 4 drums. I may try to find a cleaner-sounding one for my next project. In regards to inspiration, there...

    Emulating game systems in pxtone

For the past year or two I've been writing most of my pxtone tunes with generic instrument samples created using the Genesis soundchip in Deflemask and then recorded and clipped into .wav files. So far it's worked well enough (you can read about my first album over here), but of course because...

Purely "for show" as of right now. If I get a chance to collaborate with some artists and programmers in the future I'd love to put my music to some use.

Hello again. It's been a long time since I've posted on these forums, and it looks like it's been a long time since anyone's been active with PxTone, too. If you've been around, you might remember me from: That time when I posted a bad .org and fished for compliments, that time when I complained...

Haven't posted here in a while. Just thought I'd point these samples out: http://www.adventurekid.se/akrt/waveforms/akwf-nes-8-bit-free/ Really useful for making 8-bit stuff and perfect for Pxtone if you use the loop option.

    OrgMaker or Pxtone for Mac?

Sorry to reopen a years-old thread, but this needs to be done. My family's all switched over to macs now, and I've left all my org nd pxtone files in a flash drive on my desk, never to be opened again. I would do anything for someone to try and port either one to mac. Even pay, if I had to.
