The title suggests just general writing, and I think that's more practical anyway, as I don't think there's enough writing activity to justify having separate threads for CS and non-CS stuff.

Something kinda similar has happened to me a few times, except the lines were different colors. I just restart the computer and it works fine after that. I suspect the reason is a crucial bit getting corrupted somewhere.

Not inherently bad, but should generally be avoided. With ToT, I was basically just being lazy (incidentally, the "full" (non organya) version of ToT also has very little change of texture, but in that case it seems to fit well). Off the top of my head, some situations where it is not bad...
