If I recall right Rave Story uses a few ASM hacks. And I dare bet that RetroArch's cave story core uses the vanilla game as base for a lot of things, and will defenitely not support heavy asm hacks well. I doubt any heavily hacked mods will be able to run on your phone since porting is something...

When you handle with tiles if you go beyond tile 255 the game decides to loop back to 0. So if you have a larger tileset they probably will just not be accessible.

That's defenitely interesting, and I'll consider using that instead. Even though it's a bit early here and changes like these shouldn't be too harsh I might just consider keeping backup support for the xml format though. Who knows.
