I don't know, it just didn't seem to match the flow. Like, the bass is doing one thing and the melody's doing another and they don't really notice each other. I can't explain very well.

I like the second one better but the melody doesn't really seem to fit / complement the bass. The first one of course is lacking melody so it's hard to judge, but I think if it was just bass I would still like the second one better.
