Well, he may not have considered the abuse of getting-hit as a means of screwing with the game, and since it's kind of hard to do it accidentally, there's not much reason to think about it, so may not have.

I've always found the Snake's curving path to be beneficial - the projectile's large enough that I rarely, if ever, miss due to it, and I quite often find myself taking advantage of it to hit otherwise unreachable enemies, even aside from its wall penetration. Very, very much. :(
