What if Quote used the sword for close range and as a shield, and the spur for long range, that would be an interesting combination.

A fast-paced chaotic battle over a large area would look cool. But don't do the slow motion thing that matrix does, will not work. Have it that Quote and Curly can each use two weapons at once, one for each hand.

An idea is to use the entire environment in a boss fight rather than restricting it to a single room. Also use the surroundings in a boss fight, make it that you can use/destroy your surroundings, because a collapsed tunnel can damage just as easily as the spur.
