Yeah, that's just my problem, is I do pretty well with making loops, but I tank when it comes to making melodies, even when I really try to stick to just one.

Oh god... many things... For one, it's a 96 measure loop, making it a pretty beefy wall of hex for a mod, for just simply an intro theme Also, I ran out of instruments, getting to one of the main parts, and the song would lose a whole lot of volume and variety if I chose to take out any one...

Re: Choosing an image format This one, definitely. It has more contrast and you'll be able to work with it easier. Of course, You should run it through Auto-Levels... Of course, I could just do that for you... I also did some minor retouching on the parts that showed clipping from too...
