The only one that I know is NEStalgia. It takes some elements from modern MMOs (multiplayer, auction house, etc.) and infuses them into a retro styled environment. Also, it's free, so it fits perfectly to what you desire.

Here's a rounded image by request. Here's a picture of a flattened out sprite sheet. That way, the rounded shield is away from a flat character.

They were actually meant to be 8x8 sprites. If I tried to add a curvature to them, then they would look alien-like and weird. I could do a high-res version soon, but's I'm not in the mood right now. Possibly in the next week or month, whether or not I'm in the mood.

I was thinking that the shield was rounded, and the sun was hitting on it at an angle, therefore making the shield a bit shaded.

Made these a long time ago. Pretty basic stuff.
