Until literally a few minutes ago when I clicked onto the forums and then left, that Quote sprite was a generic compass like many others. So...I'd just like to point out that it took Safari an entire year of continuously clicking that bookmark to take the forum's image and use it as the shortcut.

This doesn't matter at all, but...excuse me? It's not like I've updated just now, or even recently. What in the world were you doing that whole time? DeviantArt and Quotev get their bookmark images instantly. Did you just forget? Or did it literally take you a year to get that image? I mean I'm glad you did it and all, I like having more pizazz for the most important link, but just...what even, Safari?

That same icon has only recently updated on mine as well.

Wow, really? That's funky. Perhaps there was some sort of update to the site itself, then...hm.

Well, Safari's bookmark icons are kind of weird anyway. Sometimes a bookmark will lose its icon or even be replaced by another from a different bookmark.

True enough, there's no rhyme or reason to them. A few manage to stay consistent - Deviantart, Quotev, and Participated Threads remain the same icon - but the others are always changing colors on me. The only semblance of a pattern is that the icon will turn grey when the page is blocked, it seems.

Apple devices look for a separate file for their icons for websites from good old favicon.ico. It may be that Andwhy only just added this separate file.

Ah, interesting! I don't see why Apple feels the need to use a separate one if favicon.ico works just fine, but whatevs.

It's because regular favicons tend t be like 64x64 at the biggest, while Apple icons are bigger at something like 198x198 (with the corners web2.0'd away)

Apple icons have to take up a far higher percentage of the screen, so having them low res would usually look bad. In our case it doesn't matter, given the favicon comes from pixel art anyway, but in, say, deviantArt's case, the extra room lets them have a full logo.
