When you said that... I started to see that too. It preferred going clockwise to counter-clockwise. Maybe the worms naturally do that. It might also be a problem with the interface too since it's not an exact science to convert from worm muscle contractions to tank controls.

Go talk to the scientists on the Holodeck. They'll send you on your pre-mission evaluation. If you check the "Objectives" section of your inventory (in the "Galc" tab), it also tells you what to do.
