There are two viable options here:

One is to get a debit card. A debit card offers the instant payment ability of a credit card except it is tied to your bank account. There is a bit of an increase to bank fees, but the freedom of being able to pay for anything anywhere online is glorious.

The other is to get a paypal account and tie your bank account to it. Although this process isn't always straightforward, and it only works for websites that accept paypal as a payment option.

I don't think I've ever heard M3's combo system talked down before, I mean it can be kind of annoying to learn initially (I've heard that emulation doesn't help with the inputs) and there are songs that deliberately try to mess up the timing but usually it adds a layer of interaction to battles that's in no way unenjoyable. Earthbound isn't a good comparison at all, aside from a couple decent fights in places it's poorly balanced and clunky even compared to Mother 1. Movement outside of battle is much better in Mother 3 too.

Having said that I don't think everything that "made Earthbound special" stylistically has been categorically done better by anything else that I know of. Even Mother 3 doesn't really have an analogue for places like Moonside or Magicant (Tanetane Island only sort of fits), or anything as visually confronting as the final battle. The OST holds up 100% as well.

I was going to use my 20$ steam card to buy undertale, but then I accidently damaged the code to the card when I peeled off the label. Shouldn't have been too bad, except for the fact I'd already tried to guess the rest of the code at least 20 times while getting 3 30 minute penalties in between for guessing too much. At this point I'm convinced the card isn't even activated.

Part 2: Then Skyrim comes out taking up over 13 GB with DLC. This is reasonable considering the fact that it was way more expansive, graphically and gameplay-wise than most other games. Go forward 2 years and something changes. Battlefield 4 is 45 Gb, and CoD ghosts is 40!!! How did the size increase so exponentially in a period of 2 years?

Part 1: This stems from my last post: In 1999 the biggest game i know of was sytem shock 2. It was around 600 MB. In 2004 HL2 came out, taking a whopping 3.6 GB space. In 2006 TES oblivion (probably the most expansive game of all time at the time) came out. It is only 6.7 GB with all DLC.
