A bit of a rewrite:
1. By making an account and posting, we will assume that you have beaten Cave Story fully, and are at least 13 or have an equivalent maturity level. There will be unmarked spoilers regarding the game and, in some sections, swearing.

2. Arguing and debating are allowed, and even encouraged to a certain degree. However, any instances of flaming/trolling/personal attacks or anything else the staff deems inappropriate will not be tolerated and will be dealt with immediately.

3. Don’t double post in an active thread. There is an "Edit" button on all of your posts.

4. No blatant spam posts are allowed. "Spam" is classified any post that does not follow or does not contribute to the current topic of discussion within a thread, or a topic created for seemingly no other reason than to increase one's postcount. Note this doesn't mean you're going to get in trouble for making a joke.

5. Off-topic posts are fine as long as they follow the flow of conversation, and the conversation returns to the original topic at the request of the thread starter, or a moderator or admin.

6. Don’t bump old threads unless you have something new to add to the conversation. Random bumps or 'continuations' of two-year-old conversations are not allowed.

7. Likewise, do not respond to dead threads when they are bumped to tell the person in question not to necrobump. Any such posts will be classified as spam and increase the chance of a thread being locked. Rouse at them using Visitor Messages or PMs if you must.

8. If a mod or admin deletes a post of yours, do not post in a thread asking why it was deleted. Both PMs and VMs are available for questioning moderation decisions. Any such posts or discussions arising from them will be considered off-topic and will also be deleted.

9. Try to put all threads in the proper subforum. Incorrectly placed threads will be moved, and a temporary redirect is typically left to point users in the right direction.

10. Include some content in your post. Simply quoting a post to show you agree with what it says is not appreciated.

11. Do not restart a thread that was closed or deleted by a mod/admin if the thread topic itself was the reason for its closing or deletion.

12. Don't use an overt amount of smileys in your posts, and please use special fonts, colors and sizes sparingly. Fully-coloured posts are not allowed.

13. Locations shouldn't be obscenely long (they stretch out the edge of the page), and signatures must not be greater than 500 pixels in length and/or 200 pixels in height.

14. Only one account is allowed per individual. Multiple accounts be banned/deleted. This includes making a new account after being banned.

15. No illegal material, be it pertaining to Cave Story or otherwise. This includes ROMs, illegal downloading of music, hacking the WiiWare Cave Story port, etc.

16. Pornographic content is not acceptable directly on the board. Please link any porn that you wish, and provide suitable warning. If you post porn links repeatedly and ungraciously you’ll be asked to stop, and, should you not stop, you’ll be banned.

17. The general banning process occurs as warnings -> infractions -> temporary ban -> permanent ban, but the site staff hold the right to skip these steps if they feel it is necessary. 12- to 24-hour bans may also be given out for bad behaviour, and do not require any history of rule-breaking in order to be imposed.

18. The SPOT subforum in the Satellite Lounge is a place where the spam-posting rule is more lax, however all other rules still apply. What is allowed or not allowed is determined by the moderators and admins of this forum.

19. Don’t ask if you can become a mod or admin here.
Are we changing/updating the rules? If so, a two suggestions:
20. There are no loopholes. Members must follow the intent of the rules, not simply their wording. If there are conflicting views about the intent of a rule, then the creator of such a rule is deferred to. If the creator is unreachable or will not pass judgement, any mod or admin can decide.
21. Do not purposefully stir up trouble.

Also I like fab's ordering/rephrasal of the rules, but hey.

Anyway yeah I agree with Lace.

Honestly, I wouldn't say "link all the porn you wish," it seems almost encouraging. Perhaps something like "if you must post pornographic content, link it and give suitable warning."

That is why I wrote "Mature content is not acceptable directly on the board. Please link NSFW content and provide suitable warning (and don't post it too much)."

Also GIR there is now a rule against posting just to say that you agree.

Re: SPOT Discussion

Eh, but in a topic where we are putting forwards suggestions for the rules, it'd be sorta odd to outlaw "I agree" posts. If nobody is allowed to say they concur, how will we ever know if the changes are good or not?

The sentiment, I feel, is more directed at theory and mod threads.

I agree
no but seriously that rule is in place as a guideline for good conduct, not necessarily as an "offense"
besides as long as you post *why* you agree you should be fine

I'm not very funny.

Oh and Lace, regarding your suggested rules: those are just common sense. Anyone who thinks they only need to follow the letter and not the spirit deserves what they get.

Re: SPOT Discussion

Meh, most rules are. They just need to be explicitly stated in such a way to stop the idiots who would break them in the first place.

Sorry aboot your attempt at humor fab, :) I'll try to support you more in the future.

Yep. I rewrote the porn link rule as per cultr1's suggestion. There was some other minor changes as well. No rules were added though if that's what you're asking.

I am the only one who cares about this since DragonBoots is gone, but instead of making it a rule why not add an option under User Options in the UserCP to disable all fonts, colors and sizes?

It is really simple to do and I am sure you can find out how to do it with a quick lookthrough on the main vB board. You could argue that the user simply shouldn't post in colors, fonts or sizes, but that takes away the limited freedom forum users have. By making it where people who don't like it can simply disable it everybody wins.

You are allowed to use non-default colours, fonts or sizes, but in moderation.

Basically don't do crap like this:

Can we add in a rule about making posts with nothing but an image outside of the SPOT as well? It's starting to get pretty dumb

Should they not be? And if that's so, why does everyone (including you) keep not-following them?

I'd think that would be a great idea (wait... is this breaking the rule against posts agreeing with other posts?).
DoubleThink said:

We're not perfect, and memorizing those rules to know and not know when to post every single thing that we say would be very tedious indeed. But with a thread like OMGWTFBBQ Pizza, I think it's a lack of discipline and needs to taken down and the user warned.

That's my input on the new rules.

Okay. You don't want to memorize all those things? They all boil down to just one statement, really.

Don't be a fucking idiot.

I'm sure you'll be okay if you do that.
