So, misinformation, we like to spread them, we often pick it up whenever it comes to something we come across the first time. So what are some myths/false ideas you've had or picked up when playing Cave Story the first time, or even after beating it the first time?
...Besides "Cave Story has a Fourth Ending", lmao. Thanks, Hayden.

So, this is one that I genuinely believed while playing the game, I never did read this online, but way back, I always thought standing in water would recharge the Bubbler faster. Idek why I thought this was a thing. Like it made sense on paper but ever since I got into modding, I realize this was never the case. Sorta like the "sugar cane grows faster on sand" myth on Minecraft.

i'll admit for a while i genuinely believed that if you got to last cave without taking damage in CS+ you'd unlock that secret remix... not like i was good enough to ever test it for myself LOL

I always thought that killing the Chinfish locked you out of the true ending so I would try my best to avoid hurting him in every playthrough. I never bothered to check if killing him did anything for years lol.

There was a myth floating around about how the mechanic of Jenka giving your Life Pot refills worked, like you had to ignore giving her the 5th puppy or some other requirement existing.

No there's no requirement or mechanics behind it she just gives you a refill if it's not in your inventory and you're post-labyrinth.

What is more complicated however is when the plantation dog (implied to be Hajime) gives you a Life Pot. You're given one alongside the life capsule when you first talk to the dog if you don't have it in your inventory, but that's it. It's a one-time refill that is "missed" once you talk to the dog and get the life capsule. I guess that means technically it is optimal to use it before you complete Plantation (like Monster X or Core) because you'll get one refill chance without needing to backtrack to Sandzone anyhow.

I thought that the mark of polaris meant something later in the game, or that "the lightning of the goddess" actually had a meaning. Guess I was wrong LOL.

Jeez... first post here after 6+ years... I heard about the eye tiles scattered across the entire island are means for Ballos to keep his eye on everything as he holds his own eyes closed when he's not battling and just idle in his chamber. Now, I don't remember where I heard this as it was years ago, but someone said that this explains how Curly seemingly crash landed on the BSS, Ballos might have opened the way to drag her inside. Reason why she was lying down apparently unconscious or damaged at the bottom of B1. I know this has holes in it, It was an old thing I heard. I tried talking to curly in several instances with every item possible at any time to see if I could somehow enter the Sanctuary from the start with her, instead of finding her on it.

With all the references to eyes in the game, who even knows what's lore and what's baloney? Honestly, with the Demon Crown, one would think more it would have to be the Doctor that's looking, since he's the only villain in the game. The "Ballos is evil" idea is a massive misconception on the community's part, dude just wanted to be unalive. He regrets his mistakes with his old home after a rivalry was forced upon him, and Misery was the one who wanted him to make the Demon Crown in the first place, so she can be more powerful. If anything, Ballos probably pulled an act of heroism by cursing Misery with the Demon Crown, forced to serve whoever wears it, slowing down the inevitable (whatever that may be, we only know Miakid wanted to take over the world with a Mimiga army and a robot army, the Doctor just wanted to finish what Miakid started, but only with Mimigas).

For Curly however, idk.

Dunno why I only now remember this, but way back when I was first playing Cave Story (and hadn't yet figured out how to get past Egg Corridor, nor had the idea to look it up online because I didn't use the internet much at that age), for some weird reason I had the notion that each time you saved, it 'only counted for one death'. Basically I thought that if you saved at point A, then at point B, then died, then you'd reload at point B, but then if you died again, you would reload at point A because your save at point B was 'used up' by dying once. For this reason, whenever I saved, I would save like twenty times in quick succession. Yeah, I was a crazy old coot as a kid.

I thought that Hero's End played when you fell off the map on the outer wall. Maybe it was a bug in one of the ports (maybe the MD port?) that propagated this misconception on my part? Who knows?

That sounds like one of the "Fourth Ending" videos on Youtube, except Hero's End wasn't playing, nor was there a "Worse Ending".
