I am looking to buy a domain, largely so I can host my own downloads, but so I can maybe do some things with it later. Any tips/ideas on where I should buy it from, and other things?

I'm also going to have to learn a bit of Ruby and Perl. I'll Google some tutorials later, but if you know any good ones it would be appreciated if you posted them here.

Also, the ones I might want are...

www.thecodehive.org [Available]
www.oliverchu.com [Available, amazingly]

I didn't post this on Facebook because I know there are douchebags who will actually buy those domains.

But CSTSF should be okay. Unless I've made some horrible mistake...

EDIT:
To know when and when not to post a thread, follow these guidelines...

I don't claim to know everything because I definitely don't. But those are some nice guidelines, and it has humor in it too.

It's usually easiest to get the domain with your hosting package if you're a first-time customer. Good hosting providers can take care of it for you.

fyi I'm using stablehost for my lightweight personal hosting and it's been pretty smooth. If you're interested in signing up with them let me know so i can get some sweet pyramid-scheme referral benefits.

Yes but that doesn't look nearly as cool as a .com, a .ca, or .org.
The difference between $2 and $16 is not a very big concern for me.

Domains are cheap. Except for Japanese domains. Silly Japan.
Hosting is the one you need to worry about price-wise. Just go with what suits you.

As for hosting bluehost has been used for this site a while now. It's quite cheap and you can get your domain free with the hosting. I hear their customer support is the weak link but I've never really needed it.

Though the domain is with GoDaddy. I never bothered changing the registrar after Skye handed over the keys so I can't give any recommendations in that department..
